Letter to Lord Shelbourne : Paris, 28 August 1766.

Lord Shelburne (William Petty, 1st Marquis of Lansdowne) was Pitt's secretary of state for the southern department and as such eventually became responsible for the administration of trade and commerce with the American colonies. It is in this capacity that Robert Cramond writes to Shelburne representing British commercial interests in France. He informs Shelburne of the differing views held by French officials regarding trade between Britain and the North American colonies with the French West Indies. He also requests Lord Shelburne's help in being appointed consul general to France.
